Corfield Periflex I

Corfield Periflex I samples

These shots were taken with a Corfield Periflex I, an original pigskin version one in fact. Disaster struck several times here, and I've heard from others that they have had the same issue, so please be aware. When removing the camera from the case, the camera back is prone to coming off, ruining your photos. This happened to me twice. Thankdfully the second I noticed it right away and the light was dim. But I lost quite a few precious shots the first time.
Other than that, I did like the camera. It is very light and the periscope viewing may seem tedious, but it is accurate. You need to wind the film and arm the shutter separately, but they do so very smoothly. No parallax correction or markers, so you need to be careful with close-ups. Like with all screw mount cameras, changing lenses is a bit of a hassle, and of course you need to change the torpedo viewfinder too.
One thing I did notice when I got the negatives back was a slightly uneven exposure across the frame due to the curtains not moving at exactly the same speed.

The first half of the photos are from a trip to Barra, the most southernly inhabited island of the Outer Hebrides and a remote place of rugged beauty. The highlight must be the airport, where the beach is literally the runway! Planes land at low tide, so the schedule changes every day, following the phases of the moon. How cool is that!?
The second lot are from Lewis, the northern most island, during a trip a month later.

Just landed...

Castle Bay, the main town, but wee nonetheless.

Kisimul Castle, looking gloomy in the bay. Worth a visit!

And a late evening shot. Sunset was around 10 pm that time of year.

The north part of the island has gorgeous sandy beaches.

Light leak affected photo. The back came off here.

Time to go :-(

One of the many coves along the Lewis east coast

I think I took the Retro Lumax 35mm lens out for these.

Cabin of a ship sitting idly on land.

Selfies with vintage cameras are always a gamble, but this one worked! Excuse the Kamera Sutra t-shirt.

Pebbly beaches here. For the famous sandy ones you need to be at the west coast, or drive over to Harris.
